We feel that postoperative irradiation as a routine procedure is not useful, and a definite high‐risk group cannot be identified. Postoperative radiotherapy is said to be of value for medial lesions and histologically positive axillary nodes. We have analyzed 24 select patients who have had local recurrences and have found that neither the location of the lesion nor whether they have had postoperative radiation therapy has influenced the subsequent local recurrences. It is hoped that this study directs others to evaluate their local failures so that a high risk group can be identified for which postoperative megavoltage irradiations can be administered with good intent.
