Apparently, malignant cells from the uterus can migrate into the peritoneal cavity through the fallopian tubes. However, another mechanism must be operative as malignant cells can be recovered in the peritoneal cavity without the fallopian tubes being present. The recovery of malignant cells in only one fallopian tube specimen may be caused by the sealing off of the proximal area of the tubes with preoperative radiation therapy.
