In the laboratory diagnosis of breast lesions, the microscope remains indispensable. The pathologist is a member of a multidisciplinary team; as such, he has a close working relationship not only with the surgeon but also with the radiologist. The chief advances in recent years have been made possible in collaborative investigations employing mammography. Diagnostic teamwork is especially important in the correlation of clinical, pathologic, and radio‐graphic study of the breast as a whole, and in the study of cases in which there may be no findings of clinically identifiable abnormality except for a malignant lesion (nonpalpable) detected only by mammography.
