A series of advanced renal cell carcinoma patients given clinical hormonal treatment is described. Eight cases (16.7%) showed objective signs of tumor regression with hormone therapy in our series of 43 consecutive cases of progressive metastatic renal cell carcinoma. Six out of 7 (objective) partial responses were from medroxyprogesterone acetate. The only case of complete regression of pulmonary metastases occurred in a female with testosterone therapy.
