A strumal carcinoid of the ovary associated with tnasculinization is presented. Resection of the neoplasm was followed by regression of the virilization, and the patient is devoid of abdominal symptomatology 7 years subsequent to surgery. The tumor exhibited carcinoidal trabeculae that merged with thyroid follicles. Argentaffin granules were demonstrated within the trabecular cells. In addition, aggregates of polygonal cells were present within the fibrous capsular areas and within the stroma of the tumor. It is not certain whether these elements represented lutinized stromal cells, or Leydig (hilus) cells. Previous record of masculinization by strumal carcinoid, presumably due to the stromal component, has not been encountered.
