A case of malignant histiocytic medullary reticulosis diagnosed through biopsy material and confirmed by autopsy is reported. This is the first case found to be associated with cytomegalic inclusion disease. The place of histiocytic medullary reticulosis within reticulopathies is discussed. The extent of infiltration with malignant histiocytes was inconsistent to explain the weight of the liver. A possible explanation for the large liver, not directly related to the infiltrate, is considered.
