An infant with a retroperitoneal hemangioendothelioma complicated by severe bleeding due to intravascular consumption coagulopathy is presented. Cyclophosphamide combined with prednisone and radiation therapy caused rapid cessation of bleeding and return of all coagulation factors to normal. This was associated with rapid regression of the tumor. The mechanism of the coagulation abnormality in vascular tumors is reviewed.
