An unusual case of primary adenocarcinoma of the esophagus arising in ectopic gastric mucosa with an associated hiatal hernia and reflux esophagitis is presented. The eponymic designation, Dawson's syndrome, is suggested for cases with these findings since it is a much shorter and simpler descriptive term. Although instances with this syndrome are being reported more frequently, such tumors must still be considered as rare lesions. By symptoms and x‐ray findings, this case also masqueraded as a benign tumor of the esophagus.
