A case of malignant fibroxanthoma of the retroperitoneum in a 66‐year‐old man is reported. It was discovered late in its clinical course and at an advanced stage the necropsy revealed metastases to the mesenteric lymph nodes, lungs, bone marrow, and heart. Histologically, the growth was characterized by a mixture of fibroblasts, benign‐appearing and often foamy histiocytes, and multinucleated cells, many of which were of the “Touton” type. Both the primary tumor and the metastases showed no cytologic features of malignancy and very few mitotic figures. This is the first case in which the metastatic lesions have been described and documented in detail.
