A microradiographic examination of 217 surgical biopsies from the female breast was performed. Nineteen of 61 carcinomas showed rather uniform grainlike calcifications of low radio‐opacity that had a chanracteristic multiple occurrence and were evenly spread out in the tissue, so they could be distinguished from the calcifications in benign lesions that also were common (calcifications in 44 of 154 specimens examined). The “carcinoma calcifications” were apparently formed within ducts that contained much basophilic cellular debris and probably rather alkaline fluid.
