A simple method of detecting circulating tumor cells in the blood of mice is described. This method allows some assessment of the metastatic potential of contained pulmonary embolized tumor cells. The sensitivity in detecting the presence of circulating tumor cells and the ability to quantitate the numbers of cells remain to be established.
