A study was undertaken in Israel to compare the mortality rates of leukemia and lymphoma among the foreign‐born children with these rates among the Israeli‐born children for the time period 1958‐1964. In each ethnic group the foreign‐born children displayed a higher rate of leukemia than the corresponding native‐born children, whereas little difference was observed for lymphoma. Furthermore, the childhood leukemia mortality rate among each foreign‐born group and the entire Israeli‐born population rose from the period 1950‐54 to 1958‐64, whereas in the case of childhood lymphoma no such difference was observed. These disparities suggest etiologic differences between childhood leukemia and lymphoma.
