A 64‐year‐old Caucasian woman had 80% of her liver resected for metastatic carcinoma of the gallbladder. Because of progressive disease, she was treated with 5‐fluorouracil postoperatively. There was evidence of gross regeneration of the liver and a return of laboratory studies to normal during the administration of chemotherapy; this suggests that such treatment can be effective and safe in patients who have had major hepatic resection.
