Abstract The statistics for Connecticut for 1935‐1959 have been reviewed on cancer of the pharynx, a disease which accounts for about one quarter of the cancer in the upper aero‐digestive tract Data on the pharynx were subdivided into three specific site categories—the mesopharynx, nasopharynx and hypopharynx. The disease primarily afflicts older men and the predominent pathology is epidermoid carcinoma. Approximately half of the patients had regional involvement at the time of diagnosis. Irradiation was the major treatment method, with surgical measures being employed in about one fourth of the patients. The observed 5‐year survival rate ranged from 12 to 18%, according to the specific site involved. For those with localized disease, the 5‐year observed survival rate covered the range of 17 to 31%.
