A case of acute myeloblastic‐promyelocytic leukemia diagnosed in a male infant during the newborn period is described. Skin nodules covering the trunk were the initial symptom prompting biopsy and subsequent hematologic study. The child died at 30 days. The findings at autopsy and chromosome studies from antemortem bone marrow, peripheral blood and skin are described. Karyo‐type abnormalities were found in the cells derived from the bone marrow. The exaggerated skin involvement appeared to be another manifestation of the diffuse leukemic cell infiltration found in this age group.
