A 3‐year experience of bone scanning with strontium‐85 in a series of 88 patients with known malignant disease is reported. Evidence of altered osseous metabolism was noted in 47 of 83 cases suitable for study. Confirmation of positive results was obtained in 34 (72%) of the 47 cases. One false negative examination was recorded. All studies were performed because of uncertainty of integrity of at least a portion of the skeletal system. Current indications for scanning with strontium‐85 in malignant disease are presented. The method appears applicable to selected cases both before definitive treatment and after dissemination of disease has been established.
