Examination of 12,245 women by mammography and clinical examination during one year demonstrated that both modalities may contribute to the detection of breast carcinoma. In women younger than 50 mammography was less effective as a screening procedure; in women older than 50 mammography was more sensitive than physical examination. Available data suggests that the detection rate observed was comparable to the incidence rate reported by other investigators.
