Bilateral radical neck dissections now are accepted generally as being the proper treatment for metastatic cervical cancer from primary lesions of the head and neck areas. Though a definite morbidity exists with the possibility of irreversible complications, mortality from the procedure is becoming increasingly less. The reports on 180 patients treated by this operative procedure during a period of 12 years at The M. D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute have been analyzed. The review includes: (1) the sites of the primary tumors, (2) the distribution of the regional metastases and (3) the treatment of each. Those patients treated before admission are included under a separate category. The survivals of the primarily and of the secondarily treated groups are computed separately.
