Fifteen cases of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the middle ear previously reported are summarized and a new case presented. These cases are analyzed in terms of age, sex, presenting symptoms, radiological findings, clinical course, treatment, prognosis and autopsy findings. In the reported case laminagrams taken with hypocycloidal motion revealed bone destruction whereas conventional roentgenograms did not. Laminagrams of the petrous pyramid should be done on all children presenting with an aural polyp and bloody discharge or whenever the diagnosis of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the middle ear is suspected. Preoperative laminagrams demonstrating the extent of bony involvement make en bloc removal of tumor more likely than heretofore.
