We report a case of a 14‐month‐old‐infant with severe congenital mitral stenosis who presented with pulmonary oedema, acute renal failure and haemodynamic instability. Balloon dilatation was successfully performed under fluoroscopic and transesopha‐geal echocardiographic guidance. Cathet. Cardiovasc. Intervent. 48:191–193, 1999. © 1999 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.
