This survey revisits the research in Germany in the seventies and eighties on carburization conducted in a fine cooperation of research institutes and a supplier of high temperature alloys, funded in the programme FEKKS by the BMFT. The kinetics and mechanism of the carburization of high alloy Cr‐Ni‐steels and the main reasons for failure were elucidated, also ways and means for corrosion protection and avoidance were developed.
