There are occasions in which process engineers need approximate estimates of the exchanger size rather than full detailed designs. These situations are often accompanied by a need for speed. This paper provides a simple procedure for exchanger sizing which is rapid and with reasonable accuracy. The methodology involved is described in detail here and it is shown that the procedure can be applied to pure counterflow and also for multipass exchangers.
