A systematic framework for the development of extractive reaction processes is presented. It consists of four steps: synthesis of process flow sheets on the basis of reactive‐phase diagrams, evaluation of process trade‐offs using geometrical design methods, analysis of kinetics and mass transfer effects, and selection of reactor types for the desired performance. We demonstrate these methods for a five‐component system with two reactions in parallel.
