Using batch reactors, the authors present the results from the decomposition of organic pollutant matter present in wine distillery wastewater. Aerobic, anaerobic, and a combination of aerobic followed by anaerobic digestion were all studied. In the combined process, which resulted in the best results, the effect of the aerobic pretreatment on the methane production and kinetic constant of the later anaerobic treatment is discussed.
