Due to the reduction of benzene in gasoline, uses for the surplus benzene are being sought. The gas phase hydrogenation of benzene to cyclohexene over various nickel catalysts. The authors report on the selectivities to cyclohexene under suitable reaction conditions in the absence and presence of methanol as a reaction modifier.
