In the past, the industrial application of supercritical water (SCW) was limited predominately to the destruction of poorly degradable and toxic wastes by using “supercritical water oxidation”. In order to investigate the synthesis potential of SCW, hydration and dehydration reactions as well as hydrolyses of various model compounds were carried out under sub‐ and supercritical conditions without additional support materials to overcome the disadvantages of common reaction conditions. This article describes the results of reactions of simple model substances with SCW obtained in a continuous miniplant with “technical” dimensions and under maximum working conditions.
