Compared with the development of an explosion in a spatially unlimited environment, explosions in containments are difficult to describe in view of the influence exerted by the surrounding walls. To assess the ability of containments to withstand the explosion pressure, the availability of a numerical model means great progress because explosion tests need no longer be carried out in each case.
