Highly sophisticated computer algebra systems (CAS) can undertake many mathematical tasks, such as formula manipulation, series expansion, and solving (differential) equations. Using the program Maple V, the authors present the derivation of analytical solutions and show how the symbolic capabilities of CAS can be used for mathematical analysis of a technical process (heat balance of a jacketed temperature controlled reactor).
