Details of a circulated‐spheres reactor for the conversion of viscous and highly viscous media are presented. Characteristic of this new reactor type are circulated spheres which provide good heat transfer and mixing and enable chemical reactions to take place in thin films on the surface of the spheres. To test the reactor concept, the thermal decomposition of polystyrene is investigated. Cascaded, circulated‐spheres reactors are used for the stepwise pyrolysis of polymer mixtures.
