Liquid chromatography is increasingly being used on the preparative scale to isolate pure substances. The four different processing engineering concepts (elution, recycling, simulated counter‐current, and annular chromatography) are compared with respect to different performance parameters for the separation of two isomers of a steriodal compound. In this paper, the experimental and simulated data for the various chromatographic systems are described and compared.
