Photochemical isomerization of azobenzene from cis to trans results in a change in its molecular size and dipole moment. The authors prepared and tested polymethacrylate membranes containing azobenzene as thin films supported on porous ceramic carriers. The flux rates and cis/trans permselectivities for a number of compounds are presented.
