In a small pilot plant the potentials of various NO x reduction techniques using pulverized coal combustion in a free flow reactor were examined. The electric heating of the combustion reactor guarantees that the parameters temperature, air number, and residence time in the individual combustion zones can be examined independently of each other. As a result, the advantages and disadvantages of the reduction measures can be compared.
