A spectroscopic graphite carbon electrode evaluated as a ferric ion selective electrode is described. The electrode response characteristics were investigated by potentiometry, cyclic voltammetry, ESR and SEM. It is possible that the electrode potential change results from the adsorption of Fe(III) and consequent reduction on the electrode surface. A linear response in concentration range from 5 × 10 −5 to 1 × 10 −3 M was obtained in 0.1 M H 2 SO 4 solution with detection limit of 1 × 10 −6 M for the determination of Fe(III) ion. The electrode shows a good selectivity for Fe(III) except for Ag(I). The new electrode has advantages of being highly sensitive, inexpensive and easy to use.
