Robust and highly adaptable sensor coatings for various analytes (see Figure) can be prepared in a one‐pot reaction directly on the transducer using molecular imprinting techniques. An overview of the preparation of these “molecular fingerprint” materials is given here, along with a description of factors that affect their sensitivity and response time. A number of applications are also discussed.
