A high Impact Factor of a journal is a sign, for authors that their articles will be seen by a large number of people, for readers that it is worth looking at the journal, and for editorial staff that their publishing policy is on the right track. The editor of Advanced Materials briefly presents the 1998 Impact Factors in the category “Materials Science” recently announced by the Institute for Scientific Information and considers the factors leading to the high evaluation of Advanced Materials . Future plans for the journal are outlined.
