Communication: The formation of regular hexagonal superstructures in liquid crystal systems is of potential importance for opto electronic applications. The authors report the kinetically controlled partial dewetting of a discotic host that contains chromophoric guest molecules to give the regular hexagons seen in the Figure, which was produced using fluorescence microscopy.
