Intercalation and supramolecular assembly of layered inorganic compounds represents an attractive route to polyurethane nanocomposites (see Figure for a schematic representation). The authors used a layered silicate, synthetic fluoromica, as the inorganic compound in this study. The nanocomposites are reinforced by means of anisotropic laminated nanoparticles consisting of inorganic layers bonded together with polyurethane.
