A novel poly( p ‐phenylenevinylene) (PPV) derivative containing both phenylanthracene and 2‐ethylhexyloxy substituents is examined. The synthesis and photo‐ and electroluminescence properties of the polymer are described. The polymer is found to have a greatly enhanced power efficiency in electroluminescence compared with PPV or PPV derivatives containing only one of the two substituent moieties. This is attributed to the large interchain separation caused by the presence of two bulky substituents, together with a favorable electronic interaction between the main chain and the anthracene moiety.
