The hot plate test is commonly used to determine first order activation energies for energetic material. It is demonstrated that the results of this test depend significantly on the conductivity of the hot plate. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the interface between the hot plate and the energetic material also plays a significant role in the activation energies and ignition temperatures obtained using this method.
