This paper describes both fundamentals and applications using FIDAP to solve metal solidification problems. A brief discussion of the relationships between phase diagrams and latent heat formulations is given, followed by a description of methods for handling solidification and fluid flow. Examples will be given to demonstrate both laboratory and commercial applications. Finally, a description is given of work linking FIDAP with sensitivity analysis and optimization.
