This paper describes problems arising during characterization of supported metal catalysts using high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Some examples of HRTEM study of the metallic clusters supported on a noisy carrier or embedded in the oxide matrix are given. Structure and localization of copper clusters in the bulk of the oxide supports as well as their transformation in the gaseous environment are also discussed.
