This paper reports on investigations of the interaction region of colliding laser‐produced plasmas. Pinhole images are taken and spectroscopic investigations of the interaction zone are performed. They verify theoretical predictions for charge‐exchange collissions of He‐like aluminium with Al IV producing Al XI in n = 3 levels. It will be shown that colliding plasmas of different temperature and density interpenetrate by using charge‐exchange reactions as a diagnostic tool.
