Recent experiments in dilute, strongly interacting two‐dimensional systems of electrons (and holes) have revealed unexpected and dramatic behavior: an apparent transition to a conducting phase, and an enormous increase in resistivity in reponse to in‐plane magnetic fields. These features are currently the focus of intense theoretical and experimental attention.
