C 60 (AlCl 3 ) 2 , prepared by interacting C 60 and AlCl 3 in the presence of Cl 2 gas, was examined by differential thermal analysis, infrared spectroscopy, resistivity measurements, and X‐ray diffraction. The compound was an electrical insulator and non‐crystalline. It exhibited C–Cl coupling and AlCl 3 in the infrared absorption spectrum. The properties of samples exposed to air and heated to 400 °C were studied. Both studies indicated the removal of AlCl 3 and the reduction of C–Cl bonding.
