Raman scattering from the (111) surface of a single‐crystal PtGa 2 sample was measured at 300 K. The first‐order spectrum yields energy for the k ≈ 0 optical phonon mode of 118 cm —1 . The full width at half intensity was found to be 3 cm —1 . The second‐order Raman scattering band was observed at 236 cm —1 . These values are compared with those obtained from the isostructural compounds AuAl 2 , AuGa 2 , and AuIn 2 .
