Manifestations of the incommensurate modulation in the optical spectra were analyzed on the example of A 2 MeX 4 type compounds with alkyl ammonium cation. It has been shown that the mentioned materials are characterized by different kinds of the thermooptic memory effect. Besides, nonfulfilment of the empiric Urbach rule was also considered as a peculiar feature of the incommensurate phases. The nature of this phenomenon has been explained on the basis of data of vibrational spectroscopy.
