A quantum kinetic treatment of the transient emission of bulk semiconductor cavities and of an infinitely extended bulk is presented. The development of the emission is described by the photon Green's function, for which we compare a steady state theory with a kinetic equation taking into account first derivatives with respect to time and frequency.
