The ability of the ternary system Nd{N(SiMe 3 ) 2 } 3 /Al(iBu) 3 /AlEt 2 Cl to polymerize butadiene at 70°C in heptane or toluene was studied. The microstructure of the polybutadiene obtained was found to be highly cis ‐1,4. The effect of the ratio Nd{N(SiMe 3 ) 2 } 3 /Al(iBu) 3 /AlEt 2 Cl and the polymerization solvent on activity and polybutadiene microstructure were studied. The best result was obtained for a mole ratio of 1/40/2 in heptane.
