Side‐chain liquid crystalline ABA triblock copolymers with a backbone of polystyrene‐ block ‐1,2‐polybutadiene‐ block ‐polystyrene and 5‐[(4′‐cyano‐4‐biphenylyl)oxy]pentanoic acid as side chains were synthesized. The block copolymers possess narrow molecular weight distributions. The liquid crystalline (LC) phase behaviour was characterized by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X‐ray scattering. Nematic and smectic polymers are accessible by variation of the spacer length.
