The distribution of the substituents of O‐(2‐hydroxypropyl)inulin was determined by methylation analysis and reductive cleavage. To confirm the results and to achieve a better resolution of regioisomers, the sample was also degraded after perethylation. The HO‐3 of the fructosyl units showed the highest degree of substitution (DS) followed by position 4 and 6. Only traces of products from tandem substitution were detected (DS = MS).
